ELD

The English Language Development (ELD) Program Office is located at 1415 N. 26th St., St. Joseph, MO 64506.  Contact us by phone at 816-671-4119.  816-671-4464 (FAX)

Our office works closely with the enrollment center to ensure all families have the support they need to register and enroll their children.  We have multiple family advocates to help provide interpretive services, community resources, and cultural support for students and families who come from other countries or who speak a language other than English.  Our office administers an English assessment to determine whether students qualify to participate in the ELD program.  If a student qualifies, he or she will receive additional English instruction from an ELD instructor.

Schools' Civil Rights Obligations to English Learner Students and Limited English Proficient Parents

The obligation not to discriminate based on race, color, or national origin requires public schools to take affirmative steps to ensure that limited English proficient (LEP) students, now more commonly known as English Learner (EL) students or English Language Learners (ELLs), can meaningfully participate in educational programs and services, and to communicate information to LEP parents in a language they can understand.

The above linked information is for students and parents, OCR guidance and resources for education officials about their obligations to EL students and LEP parents, and added resources with related information.
